Blog Post#10: The End: Tuesday Dec 13th
My final thought about Wle is that this was an excellent experience to have for every high school student. Just to get the experience to have a good job. This will be very important to use our skill we learned for Wle in college. I will try my best to figure out the next time I have a Wle, next time I want to figure out what I always wanted to do in my life. For example do music, I can intern at a studio so I can express my creative ideas on a computer. Next year i will look for a internship that will still deal with kids. Thats  a humble jib that I always wanted to have.
Blog Post#9: Life at my WLE: Tuesday Dec 6th
Today we basically help set up my project and which is now do a potluck. So I had to figure out the where the room we can hold so many senior. Everything was all planned out and got enough chairs for every seniors and old seniors that use to come. One way I improved as an interned is that I have gotten better with my communication with people. Before I was not very well in communicating with people on the daily. What makes my workplace so awesome to work is that its a huge family environment for all ages. Plus the huge basketball gym that I love playing in no matter how the weather is.
Blog Post#8: Professionalism: Tuesday Nov 29th
One way I found out my workplace was I ask my resources like my mom, dad someone who can contact a friend for a job. I also look inside phonebooks, the internet and even ask teachers. I always look for a job that I am comfortable being in. For example, I like working with kids, I go find a job that involves with kids or a daycare. I think being a responsible adult in a workplace is alkways be on your game no matter what. If your not on your game, the boss will fire you and seek someone else. Its not easy doing a job without giving your 100%.
Blog Post #7: What I learned, Reflection: Tuesday Nov 22nd
What I learned about my self is that I am a hardworker, I know how to listen and respond. I have excellent customer service, and I have perserverence. For example when my mentor Cheryl told us to take the staples of the wall. I found something positive in pulling staples off the wall. What I learned was that life is much more crucial than just taking staples off the wall. What I like in my workplace was working with the seniors and their great stories they had back when they were teenagers. One challenge I had to face was patience. Because in a workplace you always have to have a positive additude no matter what the situation is. For example when a senior had a problem with the computer, she got frustrated and her anger went towards me. I calm myself down and worked out the situation. In the end she told me thank you and told me that I have excellent presents. See what I learned that having patience help get you many rewards in life. My workplace effect me personaly because where I worked was a whole new experience because before I was just a participant for the workplace instead of  a staff. I now know how to coordinate events just like my mentor.
Blog Post #6: Leadership Skills: Tuesday Nov 15th
I am using my leadership skill at my internship. The one leadership skill I use the most is collaborating productively. I use this skill for communication with my peers. I ask them for help when I need it and find the tool I need to get the job done at my job. I also think critically because I always have to think on my feet. For example my project and , making the seniors into a bowling league in the the facility. Right now I am doing very well in using my leadership skills and there is no sign of improvement. What I learned at my workplace when I use my leadership skill it can help me communicate with my peers at any job. The most leadership skill that my mentor use all the time is collabortation productively because when customers come in she has to communicate with her peers to her pull out the chairs for the seniors or open the door for them so she can coordinate the whole activity thats going on in the facility.
Blog Post #5: Progress on my WLE Project: Tuesday Nov 8th
What I did at my WLE today was I did my simple routeen every time I come here for my workplace is get ready for the senior to go. So I set up the chairs and I go and figure out where I need my project to be at. SO the bowling league will be held in the Teen room because its very spacous and also have couches so the seniors can watch as an audience. Also has a giant tv so everyone can see the tv.My mentor thought of this idea instead of making an event with the seniors to let them play with the wii, she decide to have me create a league instead. So far we got everything set up  for the seniors to come and play the wii now all I need to do is introduce them to the wii and show them how to play, what you suppose to do, also create a qualifying team.
Blog Post #4 Project Brainstorm: Tuesday Nov 1st
What I was thinking for my project was to do something with the seniors. Maybe do an event with the seniors like a Pot Luck Thanksgiving or something with the senior. I came up with this idea because since I have made a good connection with the seniors I decide to do something cool with the Seniors for my project. What I also brainstorm was to do a event with the seniors that they can react to our awesome technology that we have today like playing the wii. Im excited to create a wii bowling league with the seniors because now they dont have to go out and pay for bowling they can have their own league right at home. Something new and fun way to play the wii bowling with the seniors. Now what I need is a tv, the wii console, a large room, and some seniors. Since these things are already provided here in the facility, all I have to do is put them together. And I shall have a simple project ready to go.
Blog Post#3 My Role: Tuesday Oct 25th
My main responsibility is to keep the facility decorated and make MJCC enjoyable to come. My title is Volenteer, what we do is come and help Cheryl around the place. Every week  I clean up and also communicate with both the seniors and also the children. On a regular day I come real early like around 7:30. I'm required to be at my workplace at 8:30. My partner Tiajine comes around 8:10. We always arrive before our mentor comes. Every morning we put the chairs out for the seniors. I put 6 chairs on two tables while Tiajine sets up the excercise area for the seniors. Next we clean up and decorate the facility. To make the place welcoming and pleasant. When it comes to lunch time I interact with the seniors. Me and my friend Bob always play pool at lunch time. This helps me even more for my project and how to approach to seniors. Of coarse I always win against my friend Bob. After lunch and when the seniors leave, we do some more cleaning and decorating, for the kids to come. Most of the time after lunch I do the dishes. I clean the pots and pans and the utencils. When the kids come we make sure the rooms are spotless and also have the video games setup. Then our shift is over.
Blog Post#2: My Mentor:Tuesday October 18th
My mentor's name is Cheryl Denton and her role is the Activities Director. She helps set up different activites that goes around the facility and help decorate the buliding for that event. Also sets up fliers and makes sure everything goes smoothly and occordingly each day. One good example is every Tuesday she helps with the seniors to sign in everyday and pay for their classes, excercise class, and also lunch. She also lets them know ahead of time if the building will be open or not. She makes it pleasing and welcoming for the seniors to come again every week. Another example is the Haunted house for Halloween. She comes up with ideas to make the Haunted House scary and brings people to come help with the haunted house. She also helps them decorated the lobby and buy the supplies when needed. Basically her job is always on her feet type of job. I always thought she was like the waiter a  resturant to keep the customers happy.
Blog post#1:  My Workplace: Tuesday Oct 11th
Where my workplace is at 28200 ruus street and its a community center that takes care kids 5 and up. Its a recreation center where kids can come and play and do homework, and be in a family environment. Now children come around 3:00 every tuesday. But for seniors they come for a specific class around 9:00 am. Where I work is a medium sized work place its not a big corporation but it is something familes can rely on. its involve with Hayward Rec. so I think it a  medium sized corpuration. Now as you know the my workplace is called MJCC. it stands for Matt Jimenez Community Center. Its a big white building and in the inside has a big basketball gym. In the lobby has a table, kitchen, 2 pool tables, 1 ping pong table, a computer lab, teen room which is cool because its basically a video game room, a library and a art room. I do not know exactly how many people work there exactally but there is not that many people that work there is the morning. More workers come like when the children come basically. Normal young adults come in and work with kids. its not a dirty job to do. Its not like constuction working where you get your hands dirty. You do have to be creative. A worker that is willing to work with kids. You dont have to have a college degree to work there you have to be 18 or older to have a chance working there. One strength that my workplace have is that its family oriented and its willing to grow brighter futures for children. Another strength is that its just like a boys and girls club but to me I think its way better because every month there is always activites each year and events every week. I dont think there is a weakness at my workplace. I know I am going to enjoy my WLE at MJCC.
